
According to Belgian outlet DH, shortly before the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations final, Senegal international forward Niang, who plays for Union Saint-Gilloise, suddenly collapsed during the warm-up, suspected to have suffered a sudden illness. He was helped back to the dressing room by his teammates.
Just before the match began, Senegal wase forced to make a late change to their starting lineup. Former Belgian Pro League player Diatta had to withdraw from the starting XI, with 21-year-old Mendy stepping in to start instead. In addition, Senegal midfielder Sarr reportedly felt unwell during halftime.
The report quoted an interview with Senegal defender Jacobs, who suggested the possibility of mass poisoning within the Senegal squad:
“Many things happened before the match. I think even more will come to light after the game… players such as Sarr experienced abnormal symptoms during halftime.”
